Our Strong Relationships

Our individual well being and our relationships are intertwined.

Knowing that these two things affect each other and keeping this in mind will allow this special synergy to create more beautiful things in your life.

Keeping a balance with these two areas can be challenging. This is not always easy to do with our very busy lives and at times these seemingly competing needs. As we know many times there are compromises we make to them fit together.

Here are some practical strategies to help these two needs coincide and compliment each other:

  1. Start with the premises that it will probably not be a 50 / 50 split between Individual Well Being & Relationship Building. That’s ok. We decide what is most important at the time and with our specific unique situation. At times it may feel top heavy in one area. And it will change with time and where we are in the life cycle. Being alert to needed changes is important.
  2. Sometimes we can do “well being activities” with “our loved one” and cover both areas, working on a strong relationship & individual well being. Ex – “Date Night” for some relationship building and some individual well being needs met.
  3. This can also include the whole family at times with some careful thinking about it. Ex – The family walk, The family play day or play activity.
  4. Within the relationship, talk with each other about this balance and how it is working for you both and any adjustments you want to try and then touch base after you have tried these changes. Remember to keep talking and shifting to make it really fit.
  5. Also, checking out with yourself and with your relationship person what really is specifically needed to help things feel better is good to make sure we are addressing everyone’s evolving needs. For example:
  • Need more alone time to renew and think more clearly.
  • Need more relationship together time to feel connected.
  • More together time for family relationships.
  • Need more movement
  • Less activity / more activity
  • Satisfaction levels for all in both areas.

This will be an evolving balance that fits best for you. The main message is that, both Individual Well Being and Strong Relationships are intertwined and compliment each other and you can shift and change to what feels and works best for all involved.

My private practice as a therapist is built on the above ideas as to how the two needs of individual well being and strong relationships are interconnected. Both affect each other and need consideration. I address these issues in my practice. My practice is open to all who live in Oklahoma. I offer online and in person sessions. You may go to my website to get more information about myself and my practice.
